IntroductionNowadays, with the benefits in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), our life time has been modified in many ways and one of the most fastest of the advancement of the ICT is Mobile Phone especially in students (Rabia, Mechammed, Umaru, Almed 2016). According to Goswami, Singh (2015),  beside books and support from schools, some students said that they prefer cellphone to food . With many function of that little device, adolescents can do anything in their class like doing homework, finding documents but in contrast most are distracted from studying by. Moreover, this could lead to mobile addiction among young people. Thus, this research is conducted to provide a closer look about the purpose of using cellphone of cellphones and its effect to their academic performance. Background Information A cellphone is an invention that allow people to call to others from a far distance and entertaint themselves with many interesting apps. Therefore, present-day cellphone provides more and more function as the world is getting developing day by day such as texting, e-mail, surfing internet, wireless contact ( Acharya, Waghrey, 2013).  As a result, mobile phones have played an important part in our lives. By 2001, there were just nearly a billion mobile phone users (Ezemenaka, 2013) but a decade later it increased to over 7 billion mobile interaction (Twum, 2011). It is clear that this significant shoot up includes a large number of adolescents cellphone users with a vast majority of students having more than 1 phone according to some researchs as Ezemenaka (2013) said. Futhermore, Rabiua, et.al (2016) also stated that cellphone had become an essential standard of communication for young people. Due to the flexibility of nowadays’s cellphones, its use in school has been defined in various ways. Most studies regards the usage of mobile phone as just texting as cited by Womack, McNamara (2017) . Otherwhile, in the research entitled “Teen and Mobile Phone”, with functions such as taking a photo, video camera, music station, the mobile phone systems had developed into a whole new generation which was not just for texting and calling, but could help people gain access to the internet. Thus, that lead the students to many distinct contents. Some students become heavy users of this litte devices’capabilities such as messaging, surfing internet, gaming as well as joining many social network to make friends which influent their behaviours and especially in the academic performance (Rabiu, et.al, 2016). The benefit of cellphones to students.Cellphones have brought about both benefits and drawbacks to student’s academic performance. The positive effect of it has been demonstrated with some studys. As Tessler (2013) did a research, most students  said that cellphones enhanced their learning, fulfilled their satisfaction in class and also boosted their attendance. There were nearly no reply that they were distracted by using cellphone in their class while most of them agreed to the advance of mobile phone that the more they used the more experience they took. Besides, with many functions of cellphones, students could also communicate with their friends and teachers easily. They could seek for helping from their friend to increase the performance at school (Sundari, 2015). . Furthemore, with the access to the internet through mobile phone, students are allowed to get more opportuinity documentaries, academic materials for learning and expand their knowledge. The more preparation with the help of cellphone give the better result they get in examination in class. (Ezemenka, 2013). Naturally, students often get tired after long day studying so cellphones are effective device for them to entertain by giving you the chance to play video games, feel the music  and it even comes up with many applications for kids for brainstorming to develop a better background (SURYANARAYANA, 2015). One of the advantages that he had mentioned in the article is providing a personal security for students. With the phone in hands, students can call for their parents for emergency situation in case the parents The negative effect of cellphone to studentsIn contrast, cellphones are regarded as an problematic for student during studying. Moreover, the overuse of cellphone would lead to cellular phone addiction – CPA among young people and it’s getting more serious to our life due to the free wifi with unlimited access (Gutiérrez, Fonseca, Rubio, ,2016). A majority of students admitted that they feel isolated, disconnected with the world and even stressed without bringing phone with them ( Jones, 2014). In Jones (2014)’s research, over a half of the participant claimed that they are becoming addicted to instant communication. Some of the subjects want to receive informantion in the fastest way with the need for contacting with the relatives, friends even getting a fear about it and all of that contributes to the high using of cellphone. Even Not surprisingly, there is a difference between two gender. Women are likely to spend far more time on cellular phone than men (Robert, et.al 2014). For female, texting and some social networking like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter is the most commom activity which is for maintaining relationship whereas male use in a more effective way. Robert, et.al (2014) pointed out both gender have no significant difference in studying while using cellphone but they still got a low performance due to the overuse of it.As reported by Rabiu, et.al (2016), instead of paying full attention to study at school, most students are distracted by the multi functions of present cellphone. Thus, it could also ruin, weaken their performance at school and some researchers found it problematic. The negative effects of cellphones have been revealed through some studys. First of all, frequent usage of cell phones has not only affect their physically but also metal health such as giving headache, aches or getting angrier, and so on (Acharya, et.al, 2013). Acharya, et.al figured out through the research that students had to suffer from headaches which leaded to the lack of concentration in studying. Moreover, nearly a fifth of participants in his research also  complained about the ability of their eyes and  ears because of  using cellphone too much. Among these subjects, some got trouble in sleeping which cause insomnia. Like Thomée (2011), high usage of mobile phone was one of the risk factor in creating sleep disruption of adolescents especially in both women and men. ConclusionOver few decades, cellphones have been an essential part in our life with many funtions and lead to some effects to us. The research above has shown both the advantages and disadvantage of cellphones to students especially in their academic performance. Cellphones have brought young people a chance to broaden their knowledge and increased the result of each exams. Futhermore, with the features like texting, calling, adolescents can cement friendship or the relationship with family. In contrast, the overuse of cellphones could affect young people physically, psychologically and even addiction to cellphone which decrease their performance at school. In my opinion, the usage of phones could increase the knowledge of students but cannot solve the lack of motivation in  their academic performance so they should use the phone wisely and effectively to get more and more supportive material for studying.
