This is when Gatsby’s delusional dream start
falling apart. Meeting Daisy’s daughter reminds him that she has really moved
on with her life. It was a shocker and an eye-opener when he realizes Daisy had
a daughter with Tom. He was in so much shock, “He kept looking at Pammy in
surprise”. Gatsby starts to believe Daisy has had a life of her own outside of
hers and Gatsby’s. He knew that she had a child, but actually meeting her kid startles
him a little. Knowing Daisy has had a child; Gatsby starts to think he’s
misread who Daisy really is. Gatsby had made this fantasy world of him and
Daisy that completely shut down the
reality of how time passed and people move on.
